On 11-14th of May, a GAWF/Animal Action’s team including veterinarian Michael Gaganis, farrier Dom Moss and dentist Theo Kouniaris, travelled to Andros where they saw and treated in total 150 equines, covering every part of the big island and many kilometers.

Starting very early hours and finishing when night came, they had a chance to see may dentistry problems, extracted teeth where needed, and cut some others, to alleviate many equines that needed it. Our vet also had to treat many wounds, injuries that had to be cleaned, bandaged and appropriate treatment given, and many veterinary related problems including cases of osteoarthritis and COPD.

Finally our farrier was also busy, seeing many overgrown hooves, some twisted and other laminitic. In general a very productive visit in an island that always welcomes and supports our visits. In particular we would like to thank the Donkey Sanctuary for supporting this trip and also Sasha, Sandra and Penny for their help fundraising to support this visit to the working equines in Andros, and locals, John Luke, Smaragda Veloudou and Irene Kontarousis for organising the visit to every aspect.
